Saturday’s meeting brought together two teams who had won their opening two games, but Huskies took the initiative early and never surrendered it. Tommy Walsh’s side led by as many as 15 points and showed the control needed to withstand a determined late push from the hosts.

Huskies set the pace

Huskies edged the opening quarter 20–16 and strengthened their position with another productive second period. A 21–18 quarter sent the visitors into half-time with a 41–34 advantage and the game firmly on their terms.

The best attacking spell came after the restart. Huskies scored 22 points in the third quarter, stretching the lead to 63–53 with ten minutes remaining.

Fr Mathews continued to battle and won the final quarter 15–12, but Huskies stayed calm, protected their advantage and closed out a significant seven-point victory on the road.

Big contributions across the floor

Sydney Wright led the scoring with 22 points, continuing her excellent start to life with Huskies. She was joined in double figures by three teammates in a balanced attacking performance.

Mia McEntee delivered 17 points, while Clara Gómez Santa produced a commanding all-round display with 16 points, 17 rebounds, five steals and a block.

Sophie Moore added 14 points and captain Orlaith Woods scored six, completing the Huskies total. The visitors shot an impressive 46 per cent from three-point range, making 11 of 24 attempts, and converted 14 of 17 free throws.

Those numbers mattered in a competitive game. Whenever Fr Mathews threatened to build momentum, Huskies found an answer and kept the scoreboard moving.
